Greene County conservation director Dan Towers began his work week last week cleaning up the wildflower beds at the trail head of the Raccoon River Valley Trail at the old Milwaukee Road depot in Jefferson.
According to Towers, the beds feature about 30 different species of native prairie flowers.
The flowers won’t be in bloom yet when runners in the Market to Market Relay head down the trail to Des Moines May 10, but by the time the Tour The Raccoon ride comes to Jefferson during the Bell Tower Festival, the plants should be headed toward blooming.
